Itinerary and localisation

The visitor center can be found close to a few sober but moving mementos to this violence. Left from it, you’ll find the British Memorial to the Missing. Behind the center a French commemorative column and the Ijzergedenkteken. These monuments are part of a peace garden.

WITH THE CAR

Coming from the E40, exit 3, Nieuwpoort

Follow the road in direction of Nieuwpoort-Stad. Turn right at the stoplights, in the direction of the Pelikaanstraat. Follow straight forward until the rotunda. Take the second turn right, in the direction of the sluices and turn at the 4th exit. You will pass the center on your right-hand side.

Coming from Diksmuide

Cross the bridge in the direction of Nieuwpoort over the E40 and follow the instructions as written above.

Coming from the direction of De Panne/Koksijde

Follow the coastal road until Nieuwpoort. When you arrive on the terrain of the city (at the light with the Kinderlaan) keep driving forwards to the Elisalaan. Drive until the rotunda and take the first exit towards the Albert I laan. At the next rotunda in Nieuwpoort-Stad, take the third exit in the direction of the sluices and on the next the fourth exit. You pass the center on your right-hand side.

Coming from the direction of Oostende

Follow the Coastal road (Kustweg) until Nieuwpoort-Stad. You will see the center on your left-hand side.

PARKING

Parking accommodation can be found close-by. A few parking spots are available next to the center (address: Sluizen). The car can also be parked on the Kaai (next to the long bridge), this parking is free. You are only a short walk away from the center.

WITH PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Coming from Oostende

Take the tram or bus until the stop “Nieuwpoort-Stad”. You are 250 meters away from the monument on the other side of the bridge.

Coming from Veurne/De Panne

Take the tram till “Nieuwpoort-Stad” (see above). Or the bus until the stop “Albert I monument”.
