Pilot service
The pilot service building with a height of 12 m is on the left bank of the IJzer estuary.
On the building stands a light installation, representing the tide and storm movements, as well as an aerial, the so-called radio-direction finder, with 32 aerials of its own. Same are set up in a circle and are alternately connected like a shot with the receiver. This happens by means of a built-in and rapid computer system. This aerial-system is rather strong and supplies an important contribution to the safety at sea in this manner.
Another system contributing to the safety at sea is the mainland radar chain. Nieuwpoort is the first place of a number of radar stations between Nieuwpoort and Vlissingen.
