Ferry service
A ferryboat combines the two banks of the IJzer in the channel. There is a daily service throughout the year, from sunrise to sunset. This simple but picturesque ferry service belongs to the infrastructure of the port area and is used during the season by approx. five hundred persons a day. Adapted to the vision of the nautical site of the channel way (also see channel), concrete plans exist to replace this picturesque bit of history by a much more modern and larger ferry service in order to enable users of wheeled vehicles and bikers to cross the channel. This new ferry service will become an essential part of the coastal bike route connecting all coastal seaside resorts over a distance of approx. 70 km.
