De Blauwvoet
De Blauwvoet, made by Fernand Vanderplancke, is an oak sculpture of 3m high and weighs 900kg. The sculpture was given by The Flemish Association of Watersports to the city council in 1980 because of the development of the first and immediately the largest Flemish marina on the Belgian coast. The sculpture was given the name ‘Blauwvoet’ because it has always been connected with the emancipation of the Flemish people and underlines the combative nature.
